Three-axis CNC milling is still one of the most popular and widely used machining processes. In 3-axis machining, the work piece remains fixed, and the rotating tool cuts along the x, y, and z axes. This is a relatively simple form of CNC machining, which can manufacture products with simple structures. It is not suitable for processing complex geometric shapes or products with complex components.
Since it can only be cut on three axes, the processing speed may also be slower than four-axis or five-axis CNC, because the workpiece may need to be manually re-positioned to obtain the desired shape.
Three-axis CNC machine
In the machining process of a three-axis CNC machine, although the position of the tool or the probe is constantly changing, the posture of the tool or the probe is fixed. For example, the direction of the tool axis of a general vertical three-axis machine tool has been moving along the direction of the Z axis of the machine tool during the machining process. The position and posture of the tool or probe can be completely determined by the coordinate values of the three linear axes X, Y, and Z.
